Today was the actual 7-5-3 Day (although we have few 5- or 3-year-old students). So this week everyone was busy making a special “chitose-ame” candy bag.

We talked about the fact that cranes and turtles can live for very many years, so the candy bags were decorated with cranes and turtles made by the students. The Dolphin Class students made turtles using many hexagon-shaped cutouts; and for the crane, their hands were traced to make the crane’s wings. The Starfish Class students cut paper strips to make a turtle shell and cut up beautiful washi paper to decorate it. The Penguin Class students colored a turtle and a crane, and then stuck them on their bag.

They all put on a “kimono” for 7-5-3, even the students who are not 5 or 3. They seemed to like wearing the kimono, and especially the “geta” and “zori”. They took off their shoes and socks so they could put them on and walk around the classroom!

Happy 7-5-3 Day!
