This year, Setsubun fell on the 2nd of February because of the time lag. However, we celebrated Setsubun with our Bean Throwing Ceremony on Monday the 3rd.

We traced around our friends to make a big human figure which became our “oni”.

And instead of beans, we threw little balls at the oni while saying “Oni-wa-soto, (Bad luck go away) Fuku-wa-uchi (Good luck come in)”. They enjoyed it so much that we did it three times in one day!

Dolphin students each made an oni using paper-mache; everyone’s oni turned out so unique and cute! Penguin and Starfish students each made an oni bag which they used to hold the little balls that they threw at our big oni.
